Thanks, rcmacmillan and cgrau. The more I look at the set, the more I love it. And I've only had it for about three hours.
rcmacmillan, these are a little rough because I'm just eyeballing it with a ruler, but here are the measurements in centimeters and inches, respectively: K - 10.4 / 4.1; Q - 9 / 3.5; B - 8.3 / 3.25; N - 7.7 / 3; R - 6.5 / 2.55; and pawn - 5.5 / 2.15. The base of the King is 1.5 inches and the rest of the pieces (pawns included) are roughly the same, maybe just a tad smaller. Here's a pic:
cgrau, I had Alan Dewey put finials on one of my grandmaster sets a little while ago but now the missing finials don't bother me as much. If, however, the set wasn't as worn, maybe, just maybe.
I can only imagine how many games these guys must have seen. I agree; must be in the thousands.
Awesome, Info. I wholly agree with RC. Those finials are easily replaced with a Dremel and some dowels from Amazon. I wouldn't think of doing anything else to it other than adding those.
