Hi, i have just bought Bain's "chess tactics for student" and I'm solving the problem.
I'm solving them in order, and I found I could solve nearly all the problem of the first 3 chapter at first sight( less than 10s) reading only white/black to play knowing the tacic i must search for( pin, knight fork etc.). I only have some problem with the last problem of each chapter.
I'll go throught the book 2 or 3 times and then i'll try to solve the problem wihout any order not knowing what tactics search for until i'll feel confortable with the problems.
what tactic book next?
use tactics trainer
I'm already using it, but i also need a book :) something prnted on paper,
mybrain works better witha book than with a mouse & a monitor
Back to Basics Tactics is good (by dan heisman
unquestionably the best tactics book => Sharpen Your Tactics
is sharpen you tactics an exercise book?
do you think i should also take a theory book like "winning chess tactics" ?
Yes, Sharpen Your Tactics by Anatoly Lein and Boris Archangelsky contains 1125 problems.
For theory on tactics:
Winning Chess Tactics by Seirawan is a good primer.
Back to Basics: Tactics by Dan Heisman is a great primer as well. It also discusses counting, which is not typically covered in books.
Chess Tactics by Littlewood is a nice little book that covers tactical motifs.
I love Winning Chess Tactics; I recommend it!!!!!
eclabesa - this link below is for Richard Palliser's fairly recent mamoth book of tactics puzzles. I have quite a few books on tactics and none of them compare to this one IMO. All the puzzles come from real GM games, and most are from recent GM games in the past decade. There are no hints either, which I really like.
