Tal weighs in: Caro-Kann over Sicilian

From Seirawan's new book, "Chess Duels: My Games with the World Champions":

In one of his games he (Tal) was in a must-win situation and played Black. He chose the Caro-Kann defense, but could only achieve a draw. When a reporter asked about the choice of such a quiet opening and something sharp like the Sicilian Defense Tal responded: 'I play the Sicilian Defense when I need a draw, but when I want to win, I play the Caro-Kann Defense.'

Nice book with chatty and sometimes deep annotations to wins/losses/draws versus Spassky, Smyslov, Karpov, Kasparov, Petrosian & Tal, plus some autobiographical material on Yasser's start in chess.

Entertaining anecdotes and thoughtful opinions. The book cover misleads, however as Yasser does not play the world champions included: Fischer, Botvinnik, and Euwe.

Nonetheless, I have no regrets on the purchase, though I may have waited for the softbound edition.

is it new, nimzovich? cause I will think of getting it...I love chess anecdotes! and of course, Seirawan's career is something huge and well-known, cannot be covered in one book, but still, would be good.

    Yes, very new.

Saw it on Amazon.com, and based on the author and Amazon's "search inside this book" feature, and that was good enough for me!

I would imagine it's a lot like Seriwan's ChessBase DVD, and that's on my list for later...

I miss his Inside Chess magazine.

While I certainly expect to gain instructional value, this fits more in the entertainment category.
