Life events have precluded me from following up with the king and queen pics and the story. But I will be doing that as soon as I can. In the meantime if any of you want to guess as to any more specifics please feel free. I will say this: the set is historically based. I'll try to post more this week.
This appears to be a unique chess set. Anyone seen this pattern before ?
I'm looking forward to seeing the kings and the Queens
Well life events force me to part with the set so the pictures of the Kings and Queens are up, as well as the story, all of it on ebay!
Some lucky collector / restorer will walk away with it. See it here :

Thanks all and enjoy.
Hi chessfanla,
Why are you selling?
Also, why sell without restoring, appraising, and have some professional photos taken? I don't mean to come across as overly direct, but I'm puzzled as to why - it seems such a waste to me. If I had this set I would restore it to perfection (and only then consider selling it if that was my intention).
Good morning, sadly some events have created a shortage of time and resources preventing me from giving this set its due. That just creates an opportunity for someone else.
Hello andy277,
Since it does help understand the item I will say that I know what I know about the set because I am family of the player and inherited it.
In response to the other queries of your comment, regarding valuation and other conditions of the sale, I would prefer not to go off topic on this thread.
The sale, details of the sale, and reasons for the sale are a different issue than the the originality/story of the set, which is really what this thread is about.
If you would like please message me about those issues.
I'm not saying I don't see the resemblance to the Terra Cotta Army either. I just got the wrong idea from your post and the other one and was trying to point to other sets with, for example, unique faces on each pawn, just to show that concept is hundreds of years old and not connected to the Terra Cotta. Also Chessfanla, I wasn't attempting to say your wasn't unique either, in fact I think it is unique but that's the sort of thing you can just about never be quite sure of.
Hi tmkroll, I really appreciate your thoughts as well as the pictures you posted, and part of the reason for me contacting people not just here but over a variety of other sources is to verify information that I already have - precisely to make sure before making any kind of claim. I think once you learn the history of the set you may find it revealing.
