Check out this neat chess set!

Would be fun to play on, no? You wouldn't have to worry about always knocking the pieces over.

Cool. It looks like they're playing on water or in a desert.

It strikes me that if they made it in a smaller size that this might make a good travel set.  If the board weren't contoured I don't think it would work, but because it is I'd imagine it's somewhat immune to turbulence or windy roads.

It also occurs to me that it's probably quite easy to see what your opponents last move was with this board if you happened to miss it as the peice would likely continue to wobble for a few seconds after it's placed.

I'd love to own one, shame about the cost.

Ah no I don't! I wish. You know, I always wanted to be this kind of cool Grandpa, who had all these different chess sets, and when my grandkids are over I'll be teaching them and letting them play, and I'll have lots of different sets for them to choose from, so my granddaughter can pick the romantic set and my grandson can pick the dinosaur set and they can have at it!

That is WAY to cool!!!!

It's $263 USD at the Umbra website. Not a terrible price when you consider how much work is involved in making that board and the fact that nobody else in your tri-county area is likely to have one.

I only have 5 words for it...

modern,

elegant,

beauty,

funny and

expensive

but worth it, I bet nobody in my country have one.

my favorite piece is the rook,  I'd like to use my screwer

A hilariously good point. The internets, you win one.

I hate to be the sober guy here, but if you don't want to knock pieces over, just get a double or triple-weighted piece set.  I used one for about 7 years before it went caput on me.  Those normal 'cheap' little plastic sets really suck, everyone knocks them over.

We have a guy that I think loves saying "set up the pieces on your own time".  He gets so worked up about it :)

I suppose if it were well enough designed the King could have it's centre of gravity just high enough that it would stay down, but only if it was set all the way down.  I still want one.
