haha erikido23n you sound like just like me, yeah I got too many books, haven't read them all, I even got Art of the Middlegame too, currently reading Anatoly Karpov's Best Games (from the library) is interesting.
Can anyone plss suggest me the best chess books for Beginners!!
Well alot people keep saying 'idiot Guide to Chess' and 'Chess for Dummies' and I think ' Alpha Teach Yourself Chess in 24hrs' is good.
Currently I am working on Viktor Moskalenko's " The Dynamic French "
Chesscrazy asks:"Can anyone suggest me the best chess books for beginners"
While I haven't read those suggested by kco, "Guide to good chess by CJS Purdy" (12th printing or later) is very highly regarded and very modestly priced. Well worth considering.
"The Everything Chess Basics Book" is endorsed by the U. S. Chess Federation.
I have that one too. More because I was looking for new ideas as white...It is kind of hard for me to follow at times(I am not sure which line he is on at times)
I play the french from both sides so any new french book by a reputable player/author I usually snap up. This book has already caught my serious attention by having some new ideas against lines I have trouble with.
Bent Larson's "good move guide". A bit of difficult for me, but its a great book becasue all it has got is test positions about combinations, planning, endgame and match the masters!
I've switched to "The Everything Chess Basics Book, which is endorsed by the U. S. Chess Federation.
In the past week I've been reading "Clash of the Titans" which is about the 1990 K-K New York/Lyons match.
I am thinking about starting to play the french as black as well(at the moment I exclusively play the hyper-accelerated dragon). But, I am working more on getting my responses to 1.d4 down
I'm instantly trying to get through the endgame book of the Polgars.
I'm going to take time out and study the section of "Silman's Complete Endgame Course: From Beginner to Master" for my level of player.
Mark Dvoretsky- School of chess excellence 2- Tactical play
Currently I'm revamping my white repertoire for the Canadian Open Chess Championship. Books I am using are:
Grandmaster Repertoire 1.d4 by Boris Avrukh
Openings for White According to Kramnik Vol 1-4 by Alexander Khalifman
Now I'm going back to "The Everything Chess Basics Book".
Right now am going through "Chess Marches On" by Reuben Fine. I found a great old copy of it a couple of weeks ago in Portland. Published in 1945 and as Reuben put it.. "a vivid record of chess activities in the leading centers of the world."
I am playing through a Keres vs Botvinnik where Botvinnik trashes him in a Nimzo in 22 moves... great stuff...
Funny you should mention that one!...I found my copy at a library book sale (had never even heard of it). Published between VE and VJ day (and it kinda looked like it had been through a war)...one of the best parts was the gung-ho "On to Japan" tone of the notes in places--where do you ever find anything like that in a chess book?! A slew of great games from the world over as well...
Kasparov's, "My Great Predecessors"
Which one?
The greatest match ever! (unfortunately though, I think that's the one by Keene).
