I was just perusing the local bookstore and a couple of books caught me eye. The new edition of Fischer's "My 60 memorable Games" and Chernev's "The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played". Do you consider either a worthwhile read for a novice? Opinions please.
"My 60 Memorable Games" is one of the best books on chess around -- according to my husband. But you saw that in a book store? I thought it was out of print! He had an old, beat-up paperback edition and I, as a gift for him, had it re-bound in hard covers. It's one of his favorite gifts. Before I had it hard-bound, I looked it up in out-of-print books and it was selling for something like $200 or $300. Anyway, I know I'm not really answering your question, but there you have it -- leave it to a woman to digress.
Buy both for a mere $30 Us real jewels.
I have "My 60 Memorable Games" but without Fisher's comments, too expensive $200+ US.
