I am reading this book by Chess Grandmaster jose Capablanca called, "Chess Fundamentals/Algebraic Edition".
I have just started it, and using it as a mentor in my game play progress. Here is a sample of one of the tactics in the book dealing with pawn promotion.
Here is an example of how white King and white pawn force black king into a stalemate. Notice how the white king is constantly covering the white pawn as it advances against the black king.
I have come to appreciate these lessons in form as they show what can be done with the lesser of the powerful chess pieces and how
they can be formed to work together. Jose capablanca's book first published in 1921 the year he defeated Emanual Lasker to become the World Chess Champion is by far one of my favorites next to Bobby Fischer's book. There are other masters I would like to study such as Kasparov, and Pogar, yet I think here is a good place to start.

You will definitely be tested on that simple maneuver all the way to 1800
I must say that Judit and Kasparov are two of the most difficult players to comprehend. I found that the games of Capablanca really do give one an illusion of confidence, until I find out that I can't play chess as easily as it looks from his games. I highly recommend the games of Yifan Hou for understanding chess at the highest levels
