    Hi All,

Recently I decided to revamp (i.e. start again) building a new repertoire. I had tried to learn reams of theory and ideas in god knows how many variations leading to me feeling completely overwhelmed and in most of my games lost.

I've made some choices now like the Scandinavian as black against e4 but I am really struggling for a d4 defence.  I like the look of the Budapest but if the opponent doesn't reply with 2. c4? Then I need a second defence. The Englund gambit isn't sound?!

I'm open to suggestions and am looking for something like the Scandinavian ideally, simple to learn and with some gambit alternatives.

    Thanks in advance

I suggest QGD to start to get a feel for Queen's Pawn Openings, and then experiment.

I quite liked the primative Fajarowicz Ne4 instead of Ng4. I'll have a look at the suggestions.

    Thanks for the responses
