1...f6 is a very playable Opening, with interesting opportunities for both sides!
Do not be so dubious for killing the flying birds!
I played it a few dozen times by black and got good plays and results...
First time I played against it, was 1977 City 5 minutes blitz Tournament, and it was shocking, when my partner moved all 8 pawns by black at the 6 line for first 8 moves, started 1...f6!? But I won that end!
My point is to not to be a dogmatic player, but creative one!
It's not a good opening in my opinion, but the surprise value is enough to win sometimes.
It is a very playable Openning!
It is as good or bad as you are good or bad player, or just lucky one!
Bored of Spanish Game at once? Play different! Joy the Game!
Well as i see it you asked us for our opinions on this move and i have to say that i think it sucks and i don't know why anyone would want to start a game this way. I know a guy that likes to play 1...Nf6 and then play the knight back to g8 on move 2 he wins quite a few games with it but probably only because his rating is above 2000 and he usually plays it against people rated around 1500 so it doesn't mean the move is any good just that he is the stronger player most of the time and can get away with it. I saw a friend of mine rated over 2400 beg him to play it against him in an OTB tourn. and he would show him why this kind of thing doesn't work.
Aah yes, I was at chess camp recently. My friend played the opening for fun against a much weaker player. If my memory serves me well, he won anyway. He still declared his disliking of what the opening became.
I guarantee you I can beat anyone here rated 1500 or below by playing 1...f6
It may be a bad move, but I have seen this played countless times for strong players for amusement. The important point though: They still win.
Actually what they usually do is 1f3 2. Kf2
And I have actually seen a kid win with 1. f3 2. kf2 3. c3 4. Ke3 5. Kd3 6 Kc2 7 Qe1 8 Kd1
Against players over 2000 in speed games, not kidding.
Does that mean that you are a 100% sure, bro!
This is not a good opening move,VERY BAD MOVE!!!!!!
The opening may be bad, but it still takes proper middlegame teqnique to keep the advantage. Knowing opening lines is one thing, but if you can't prove that the opening is bad for the rest of the game, then it doesn't really matter how bad it is. You never see titled players using this because they obviously will rip each other apart when it's used against them, but someone with even a bit inaccurate gameplay could throw the advantage out of the window.
I've played 1... f6 over the board. I had no idea what to do. It was a horrible choice. I regret it.
Barnes Defense,I don't know about you but I love white position right now after the following moves, black has some solid defense, but has a to defend against an onslaught against white's h-pawn and his knight that could of gone to f6,has moved too many times and too boot has an isolated e6 pawn!!I don't know but something about white position i like maybe because white has an great setup!!
