When Jon Speelman introduced 10.Bd2 in the early eighties, everyone laughed at it, and attributed the move to Speelman's eccentricity rather than any chessic value it might contain.
Thirty years later, 10.Bd2 is pretty much the only move played at a serious level.

Here is a little bit from Avrukh's book. It is all good stuff but think can be forgiven if goes over a FIDE 2000's head a bit. It usually makes more sense to me after played a game, and go back to it.

Transpo: Shakmaty?
Sorry I didn't answer you yesterday. Pretty busy day.
Yes, I said subscription. Meant to write archive subscription. Shakhmaty was a Russian chess publication 1931-1991. There are games in those archives that cannot be found even in Chessbase's 5 million+ games database.
If your going to get to the ultimate truth about 3.Nf3 vs. 3.g3 against bogo/QID/benoni your research has to be exhaustive.

@ andrelieutenant: 10.a4 b4 11.c4 bc3 12.Nxc3 still gives Black something to worry about. White may also play 8.0-0 first, when something like that may happen:
ya i'm too scared of facing the parham. now go to your parham thread and laugh at me. look, you can even screenshot this.

I understand, it's scary to fight against. I just don't think if you are afraid to play it, then you have any right to say it's a bad opening, seems very hypocritical to me...

You two, don't forget to wear you lucky Par ham necklace charms, when you go swimming in shark infested waters.

What's wrong with the Parham, I was just giving my opinion about this topic...
dude stop coming into other more legit threads with this parham BS
I don't see why everybody on htis site has to be coldhearted...
I promise we are going to see if chess.com staff will make you an offer you can't refuse. Unless you cool your jets. It is ok to talk about the Parham on topics that are just for fun. But when you are interfering with chess discussions with this nonsense, it is not fair to the people that pay to be on this site to learn chess.
Please do not misinterpret our kindness and courteous behaviour for weakness. I promise you again, we will check into checking with chess.com staff, with great interest and vigor. We are asking politely, please don't force our hand. If you do, it will go beyond just words.

People just want to be able to discuss the topic. The opening post asked a question about a topic that has nothing at all to do with the Parham. YET, you come in here and drop comment after comment about the Parham. It's what we call "off topic" and is annoying to those who have an interest in the posted topic.
Do you understand now? It's as if you and a few friends were sitting around discussing football and someone joins you and keeps injecting comments about tennis.
If the topic is the Parham, or "unusual openings" or "what's your favorite opening" you can feel free to promote your opening there. When it is specifically another variation, it's just rude and disruptive.
are you afraid if the bishop is trapped?
Well yes a club strenght player would be a bit worried about black starting something on kingside, then what's ba5 doing. Kotronias old book covers alternatives to 14a3 quite well, and material covered still looks relevant 16 years later. Am a lot more comfortable playing black-side in catalan, and don't think another FIDE 2000ish strength player will cause me much damage trying to pressure me on queen-side. I am quite happy they are playing somewhere away from my king.
