Agressive/Tactical Defense Against 1.d4

I currently play the Budapest Gambit, but I want to play somthing more popular today. I got a book on the Modern Benoni but I'm not sure if it's my style. I prefer Tactical and open positions. What should I play?

First of all .. in d4 openings white can always choose more quit variations. You cannot force an open tactical position with black if white does not want to without getting a disadvantage.

Perhaps grunfeld is your best bet but since it is an open and tactical opening there is a lot (really a lot) of theory

The King's Indian Defense is an opening used by many high rated players against 1.d4. Another option is the Mexican Defense which avoids main lines and can confuse 1.d4 players as they don't really know this opening and the traps involved.

Semi-slav is also a good option. Check out Anand's game against Aronian from Tata Sterl a few years back where he crushed Aronian in the Meran variation. I'll post it when I find it.

I never denied you can make a tactical position of anything but that comes at a price. There is not decent black system where you can get an equal tactical position if white does not want to cooperate lets see ...

  • Against kings indian white can play dxe5 and get a dull positional position you can only create a tactical postion if you take big positional risks. Also the g3 system is not very tactical
  • Benoni and the likes (wolga etc) white just does not push d5 but instead plays for some kind of marcozy bind
  • Against grunfeld once again g3 systems
  • Against slav or queensgambit declined you can just exchange on d5
  • Against Budapest (you already getting in more murky waters here if you play this) white can play Nf3 (instead of Bf4) and the only tactical shot black has (the Diemer rook) is easily counters if you know how
  • Albins is getting seriously muddy and borderline playable white can play a3 and is better already
I agree that not all of these systems are not whites best shot for an advantage but they have in common that if black goes to far to make it a tactical position he will have to take other disadvantages.

I have no trouble with equal or lower rated people taking a worse position to get tactical changes. My technique is good enough to deal with that.Even against higher rated players i do hope they go for this because it gives me better changes to win or draw ;)

KID(Kings Indian)

Budapest is a gambit opening that starts after 1. d4 Nf4 2. c4 e5. It is just playable specially if white choses the most complex lines you get a nice mess where black certainly has changes

However white can also avoid everything and get a postion with a positional plus and black can only play for 2 results (draw of loss). Though it is probably draw there is not much fun there are black.

Oww and kingsindian is perhaps tactical in some cases but certainly not open. Chain strategy is very important in the KID.

The Budapest Gambit is a gambit in the Queen's Pawn Opening that is reached after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e5!?. It isn't unsound, but I wouldn't ever play it.

Dhinesh26

which is the best opening for white?

Dhinesh26

in this black is moving which defence?

Try the Chigorin maybe.

You cannot force white into a wild tactical melee. Just pick a defense that suits your style and play the game.
