    I'm having trouble finding a good alternative for black.  Any help would be appreciated.  1. e4 d6 2. d4 Nf6  3. Nc3 g6 4. f4 Bg7 5. e5.   Thanks!!!

Nfd7 looks good. you could also do dxe5.

This sorta reminds me of the Four Pawns Attack in the KID.  I would probably take on e5.

Game Explorer gives dxe5 and Nfd7 with dxe5 as the most played move.

Nd5 is a nice central post.

If you want to look it up sometime its called the Austrian Attack. If 5 ... Nfd7 6. Nf3 c5 is the recommended line but it complex. If 5 ... dxe5  6. fxe5 Nd5 (to avoid 7 e6) 7. Nf3 and White still has a good center. Nevertheless, I prefer as White to wait and play 5. Nf3. But if I was playing Black I would have to know 5. e5. Best of Luck.

I know how to play the pirc defence.  I also know how to play against the austrian attack (one of my favorite to play against).  However, i just wanted to know what to do against that particular line of the austrian attack where he does not play Nf3 on move 5 and i dont get to castle right away.  Thanks for those who helped.

Here is some analysis for you. I would suggest searching the position given in the game window at move 10 (or 7) on some database and prepare some of your own analysis from there. White seems to do quite well with this line. Its not risky for White at all and a line worth learning if you want to cut down your opening preparation against the Pirc.
