No, but I will give you my opinion.  b4 is a decent move and can beat many unsuspecting opponents.  But against strong play, you will be struggling for equality, which is not what you want to see as White.

You shouldn't play b4, unless you know WHY you're playing it. Remembering opening lines are useless, save you know the fundamentals of the opening. Why your playing it. Oh, yeah, in answer to your question. I don't.

I do and love it to death.  Fairly mild and your opponents generally feel a bit threatened because they are never see it as evidenced above.  Just play your usual developing moves and be careful.

Have fun!

I play the ornagutan as white constantly, and I do similar as black. This opening is great for blitz games because of the quick development and strong queen side control of the board. This opening goes against the norm and instead of the center of the board it uses the queen side, along with the diagonal resulting from 2 Bb2.

This opening is hard to win when black is a strong player, but unless you know the opening well I suggest you stick with the normal 3 openings which is c4 d4 or e4. (4 knights is a decent opening as well, however I haven't really enjoyed playing it because they end in many long defensive endgames.

1. b4 (The Orangutan or Polish Opening) has two main variations, either with an early b5 push or without.

I haven't tried it as White, though I have found comfortable play with a defense against it that was (I believe) devised by IM Florian Felecan:

1. b4 e6

2. Bb2 Nf6

3. a3 b5!?

The idea there was to cut off White's Queenside expansion with (off all things) a double Polish, and it works nicely, if White doesn't push b5 first.

The Polish Opening only works against pawnpushers. The main line alone literally destroys the opening itself !!. If you play anyone who's strong and knows the main line, they'll have an excellent game and a huge lead in development.

For the topic though, I've never played it and I never will.

1. b4 is my pet opening. Against less experienced players I get a lot of wins and a few draws with it. Against really sharp players, I usually get spanked because they sometimes know the lines better than I do.Undecided
