Anybody have any ideas about the best way to proceed for Black against the following?
7...dxc4 8. Rxe4+ Be6 9. Nxd4 Nxd4 10. Rxd4 Qf6 11. Nb5 Rc8
That's interesting, 7...dxc4 gets good results for White according to the database, so I'll be interested to learn what an engine has to say. Thanks for the suggested line.
The best move is probably 7...Be6! which is not widely known. Effectively, it's the same as 7...dc3 after 8.Bxd5! dc3, but gives white extra chances to play worse...
7...dc3 should better than 7...dc4, although not much.
After 6...d5 White had a better move than 7.Nc3. What about7.Bxd5 and after 7...Qxd5 8.Nc3 attacking the Black Q and Nat e4. Black cannot play 8...dxc3 because the Black Q drops.Best RegardsDarthMusashi
This could puzzle Black a bit: He must choose between total equality after 8...Qh5, or taking a very mild risk and going for a win with 8...Qa5 9.Nxe4 Be6 10.Neg5 0-0-0 11.Nxe6 fe6 12.Rxe6 h6(!). IMO white has nothing at all in both cases.
It seems dc4 simplifies whatever white has in mind . The more exchanges the better for black cause of the extra awkward pawn.
