what is it? i like to play sicilian against e4, but with d4 its useless. so, what do u guys think the best response would be?
erikido23
Ay...you would think jesus would learn to read.
Look at the thread right under yours
there was none there when i posted this. would u care to direct me to it?

"Best" is an adjective that can't be applied to such a bias matter. What kind of play do you enjoy? Attacking, "king-scalping" chess, or slower games. Or somewhere in-between
i prefer attacking.
as the great boxer jack dempsey once said, "the best defense is a good offense"
I would reccomend the Dutch Defense. 1. d4 f5. Here are the 3 lines and main ideas.
The Classical Dutch:
The Stonewalll Dutch:
The Leningrad Dutch:
My post is messed up, but I beleive you understand which is which
yea thanks. ill have to try those

my response to d4 is always d5. It seems to work for me. after that, i tend to make it up as i go along.

I agree with MN94XD, try the dutch. If you like the Sicillian for e4, the Dutch is similar, as it creates an immediate imbalance. The major difference is that the Dutch weakens the kingside a bit.
I like the stonewall lines myself. Creates a very solid front, and good attacking chances on the kingside.

Yeah, the Dutch is awesome in my opinion. Some lines of the Leningrad remind me a bit of the Sicilian in their counter-punching potential.
Also, give the King's Indian Defense a look it can be similarly dynamic..
i have tried to dutch recently. I haven't done so well, but i have definately noticed an improvement in my last few games with it

Gruenfeld every time :D

Nf6, King's Indian defence. It developes pices, gives a frianchettoed bishop, and avoids Queen's Gambit
