Do any of you know of good King's Indian Defense books or training DVDs (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 if you don't know)? I have very little experience with this defense, and want to learn a lot about it.

I figure I'll leverage this thread that has already been started.

I'm looking for one DVD on the KID that I can watch as an alternative media to text books.  I'm a relative beginner so prefer something that goes fairly slow with as much move by move explaination as possible.  Of the two mentioned above, and relinked here, or possibly others, which would you recommend for a relative beginner if I can only buy one?

Also, these are refered to as Fritz Trainer.  Does that mean they are viewable in chessbase software as well as by video player?

ABCs of the King's Indian, Martin

World Champion's Guide To The King's Indian , Kasimdzhanov

Thanks,
Paul

If you want a complete repertoire there aren't really any videos out there for you, you'll need to buy a book (or several, the KID is VERY complex). However, if you want a general overview explaining the key ideas and structures either one of the DVDs you suggested above would be a fine choice.

Eric, thanks.  I have the books but didn't make that clear above.  I'm looking for a second media that I can watch while riding the stationary bike in front of the TV, for example.  If I can watch it in chessbase too, great!

I have:

Starting Out: the King's indian, Gallagher, both book and CD.  Great for beginner.

Play the King's Indian, Gallagher.

Beating the Anti-King's Indians, Gallagher.

A video? Hmmm....you could try the Roman's lab DVDs they're pretty popular.

Can those Firtz Trainers be watched on TV, or just viewed in Chessbase products?

No, you need the chessbase software to run them.

Are the Fritz Trainers interactive at all?  For example, can you click on the pgn to move the pieces?  Can you drag the pieces to create alternative lines?

They're not really interactive in the sense that they respond to you at all. They're simply a series of recorded lectures in which the presenter moves the pieces using the chessbase interface and gives verbal and visual comments on camera. You CAN move the pieces yourself and create alternate lines within the PGN that comes with the lecture, but the lecture won't respond to them in any way. Basically you're just supposed to sit back, relax, and absorb.
