I'm looking for advice on how to develop a good control in the beginning of the game using this opening [c-4,b-4,g-3]. I had a moderately successful game using this by establishing fianchetto and a Reti-esque N-f3, but it seems like an excessive amount of pawn moves right off the bat. Any elaboration would be appreciated.

The Catalan is a great opening.  It is rich in ideas and develops both tactics and postional play in a player.  The KID Four Pawns Attack is a lot of pawn moves too.  Lots of times, the bishop on g2 becomes a complete monster and can dominate the c8 bishop.  I have won lots of games with this method.
