I make (physical) flash cards for critical moves in openings I play as well as typical tactics in the structures that result.
I do it with file cards and chess stamps [made for old postal chess games]. You can still order these from companies that make stamps.
I also know people who make tactics flash cards by cutting up tactics book positions and pasting them onto file cards.

I believe it works with any desktop version of Anki as these decks do not require any plugins/add-ons
