Chess systems, what are they?

Hi everyone,

I am fairly new to chess and I have been browsing the internet looking at different openings. I am curious about all the different systems I keep on stumbling upon. For example, the Makagonov System. I was wondering what is the difference between a normal opening and a system opening? I hope it is not a very stupid question.

Thank you.

A system opening can be played regardless of your opponent's repsonses.

Is there a list of them somewhere that I could view?

One such system is the London System. There is a wealth of information on youtube about it.I'd recommend you check it out.
