The closed Sicilians are variations in which White does not play 2.Nf3 and 3.d4. They are supposed to be less tactical, inferior for grandmaster level play but fine for sub-master play which means almost all of us. Lately I am seeing more opponents play these. Are others?
Closed Sicilians are the best Sicilians! I sometimes play 2. b3 to play an off beat Sicilian to avoid opening theory or 2. d3 to combat the Sicilian with a King's Indian Attack formation.
