What's a good d4 defense to pair with the Pirc defense that I am learning against e4? ..So what I mean is something with similar themes, pawn structures, etc like the caro-kann and slav pairing.

if you play d6 and he plays e4 it will just transpose with Nf6 . . .

King's indian systems. Offer the transposition like suggested and fianchetto when you get the chance. You already have to know one transposition to the KID if they refuse to play Nc3 in the Pirc so why not learn the whole system.

I do plan to use d6 against either e4 or d4... OMGdidIrealyjustsact, I'm fairly new to the pirc and wasn't aware black could be forced into a KID, I have heard black can play an e5 and avoid a KID in some lines, could you shed a bit more light on this ? I'm not sure about picking up the KID since I understand it's heavily theoretical, I'm not sure if I have the time or energy to invest in 2 sharp defenses.
