I am dedicated to d4 but after trying e4 I liked all of the new options. Can someone tell me an opening that opens up the position. (As white.) Besides the QG which if you look at my profile you will see I have used it before. Almost anything would be good.
the main openings where the game is open is in 1.e4
as for 1.d4, the really only good "main" opening in it is the QG.
if you want to open up a position in 1.d4 you might want to try the Blackmar-Diemer gambit.
It looks interesting but it does not look like something I would feel comfortable using, (After all I am so low rated.). I am not looking for something that complicated.
ok, so less complicated.. that leaves you with a 1.d4 system.
have you seen the colle-zuke system? that might be a good place to start. you get the same setup and positions nearly every time, and if they slip up you get an attack on the kingside.
The Scotch Four Knights is pretty simple. Just develop your knights, play d4, put your pieces on good squares, and play!
The scotch goes 1e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 d4
I may be low rated but I'm not stupid.
But if you mean that it uses d4, yeah it does but I am looking for an opening that starts with 1 d4.
I say just stick with the QGD. It may be more complex than the minor d4 opening systems like the Colle but also far better.
It isn't that hard to play either as (you may have already noticed), basic ideas are more important here especially in the QGD. For the Slav, opt for the Qc2 line which is guided more by basic principles than theory.
Once you get comfortable with the QG, then move on to for mainstream openings like Meran/Botvinnik Slav.
As for 1...Nf6, thats a different story but agaisnt the Nimzo, play Qc2 and for the Kings Indian, use basic KID principles such as attacking the queenside and not letting it get locked down as well as normal opening principles.
I know there are other things black can do after 1...Nf6 or other than 1...Nf6 or 1...d5 but I don't think they will be as common.
Simply, the Colle System is like a crutch and once you use it, it will be hard to switch at higher levels. Learn the QG 1.d4/2.c4 ftw!
Why are you so determined to stick with 1. d4? The usual recommendation for beginners is to start with 1. e4, specifically because you'll get open games where tactics rule, which is what you need to be learning at your level.
The group of openings that start 1.d4 2.c4 3.Nc3, very generally, tend to be the more aggressive, open games. Obviously, everything's relative...these ain't the king's gambit.
QGA - 3.e4
QGD - exchange
Slav - Geller, 5. e4
Semi-slav - Marshall, 4. e4
Any 1...Nf6 - Trompowsky
Any 1...e6 - French
Any 1...g6 - 150 attack
Anyone who 1...b6's you is going to hippo if they want, but you can do your best to play aggressively.
That'd keep it pretty open for you
Try the Levitsky attack.
Try the opening that best suits you then make it happen but never THINK that your opening is gonna win cuz they never do do they?
?? I am not saying that I am a wimpy 500 player that has never won. (No offense to some people.) I am in the mid 1100's which isn't all that bad, just not very good. I got a draw with a 1400 player, (There was a move that would've won, he just didn't see it.). And just like any other chess player I want to get better. Magnus Carlsen is always trying to get better. He isn't trying to make sure he remembers everything he already knows, he is trying to get better. If you look at some of my games from early in my chess.com career and compare tehm to the game I play now you will see my extreme progress. (500 points up.)
That is how I played when I started. nd I rose to 1150 so I want to continue to improve. But anyways, my record lately is actually over .500 so I am doing better and does not always lose! Although my first win took a while.
What is you favorite thing about Carlsen?
