While most of the defences against e4 are quite effective the ones against d4 tend to be inadequate and dodgy.  The nimzo, king's indian, slav and QGD and QGA are all desperate efforts in defending against d4 and lack the logic and clarity which are typical of french or sicilian. So many good defences against e4 and not even one single proper one against d4 why?.  If black wins and draws against d4 that's because d4 opening is a dodgy opening for white anyhow.

there are plenty of proper openings for black against d4, I play the semi-slav which is solid and tough to beat.

You could try the Benoni (1...c5), or the Dutch (1.. f5).  I like the lines that come from them.

What exactly do you mean by logic and clarity?

Play the tango. It proves that c4 is wasting a move, not developing a piece. This is the tango.
