Yep, Damiano's Defence. Best for white I think is 3.Nxe5 after which 3...fxe5 is met by 4.Qh5+

Once my friend played Nxe5 and lost! It is very surprising on how someone can lose as white in that move.

Maybe this would work for me otb.. if I study all the lines good enough as black!

I was looking at the live games from the world open in philadelphia recently & a GM actually played this opening as black. I cant remember whites rating but this was the open section & anyone can play up of course. Black won.

But of course there's a whole range of reasons it's positionally faulty in my meager opinion. Weakened light squares, doesn't help development, takes good square away from knight, doesn't pressure center in any way, weakens K position, etc. If black wants to solidify his strongpoint there are a multitude of ways that don't have as many positional consessions. Just my humble opinion. Are there some IM's or GM's here that can shed positional/strategical light on this matter? I'm curious now. The GM that played it clearly done it as shock value (get opponent away from prepared opening) & I'm sure wouldn't have done it against stronger opposition.

Pfren, do you think the positional analysis made sense or are there other positional/strategic points that are missing or make more sense?

There's a very interesting video, on youtube.com, uploaded and commented by Mato Jelic : Bobby Fischer vs McGregor (simultaneous exhibition), when McGregor employs the Damiano Defense and "comes to draw"!

3...fxe5 is presumably not part of the Defence!

lately its been used as a gambit and not a defense so he probably lost to the gambit side of it.
