 It can be after a move like 3.... Nc6 , yes. The main line of the Moscow attack runs 3....Bd7  4 Bxd7 Qxd7  though.

I've been responding with 3...Nd7 but maybe I'll try Bd7 instead...  It's an odd little thing.

I knew it by the Moscow Variation, when I used to essay it out of fear of the Open Sicilian. Now that I have conquered my fear, I know it as both the Moscow Variation and Canal-Sokolsky Attack.
