You still didn't address the obvious result of wasting time and mental energy calculating fantasy variations that never are realized on the board when that time and energy would be better spent looking at general features of your and your opponent's positions and determining where weaknesses are and if they can be exploited. That's a far better use of a player's time when his (or her) opponent's clock is ticking

By the way, with your U.S.C.F. membership, you can go to the U.S.C.F. website at --> http://www.uschess.org/images/splash-homepage/splash.php
Here you can view all tournament listings for the entire U.S., check your rating, or your opponents ratings, tournament results, order chess books and equipment from the U.S.C.F store, read the latest issue of Chess Life right online, etc.
Enjoy.
www.chesstour.com is a good place to find tournaments also. Most of their tournaments are long time controls, but if you want, you can play shorter time controls by playing several games in a day.
Any of the chess tournaments listed at ChessTour.com are also listed at the U.S.C.F. website www.USChess.org, along with many other tournaments that aren't listed at ChessTour.com and usually with much lower entry fee's.
The U.S.C.F. is the main chess organization in the U.S. Why in blue blazes would a U.S.C.F. rated tournament not be listed with the U.S.C.F?
