Has anyone used this or been been used by it, honestly!  I've never been used by this opening, however I've used it a handful of times and it worked about 1% of the times.  I'm new to forums BTW.

Not quite, but a couple of years ago I got to do a four-move checkmate against a player rated 928. (oh and welcome to the Chess.com forums :)

Here it is:

I rarely try it any more, but did it once a few months ago, but the guy I was playing admittedly said he wasn't any good, he wanted to learn the game....all this after the fact....I felt bad, kinda.  Bright side I said, you just learned fool's mate.  I taught my dautgher the move and she's pretty savvy with it...but she trys it even when it's blocked...she thought it was going to work every time.  LOL

I love that. I was at a book store with a friend of mine and a local chess club was out front playing the public. Chester, yes Chester, walked up and played this little boy who WHIPPED him with the fool's mate, didn't even sit down, and didn't even smile at him as they shook hands. I laughed for about 10 minutes. :-D

Fool mate can turn against you. In the beginning i fallow the principes of the opening. It's more fun thinking creativily than try to checkmate youre opponent with some memorised moves. It only works for the beginners. My oppinion

Agreed, but you would be surprised whom else falls for such trickery.  I've taught all my friends the openings for all quick mates (not to use mind you) but how to identify and counter because if you are caught you're open for a counter.

Yeah, I prefer to win a really long game than to win a 5 move game where I play for a quick checkmate. It is much more satisfying to outplay your opponent for a 50+ move game and "earn" the win rather than going for the quick swindle.

I hate to see so many parents/coaches teaching the scholastic children these checkmate tricks rather than teaching them logical opening ideas. If I ever become a chess coach I vow to rid the world of these quick checkmate tricks, hehe.  Cool

Good for you Matt.  Man I'd love to teach/coach chess, much like my friend taught me over the years.  On the other hand I'm content just playing for fun and beating those who think they're unbeatable. "Even better than winning is losing gracefully." Man do I love this game.

How can you "try" the fools mate? Isn't it a blunder for the opponent, and not a stategy. And unrelated, here a game I once played

I think itaibn has hit the nail on the head rather than regard it as a stratagy its best to regard it more as a blunder by the victim.  I always regarded to be a direct blunder in the opening and not as has been shown above. This is I believe is commonly regarded as the sequence of moves resulting in Fool's Mate.

You know, all of those Blitz Cream attacks (like the 4 move checkmate) are all targetted around the king's side, i mean, if i were to mount a good defense on the king's side, the game is bound to last for a long time, considering that there is no possible way to attack the king until you move away the barrier
