e4 it opens for several possibility and it really depends on blacks counter move, I might queen gambit, I might Ruy Lopez it all depends on my opponent but there's more tactful positioning from the e4 and it opens up your back rank.

That's if Black plays e5.  The classic e4 occupies the center, but many players are hypermodern and may not follow suit, but may develop pieces and pawns at the flanks.
