Just curious. If you played the KIA, KID, or Pirc for a while and decided to move on, why did you move on? What (if anything) did you dislike about these openings? What did you move to?
The KID and Pirc give white a very simple game of holding onto the center in a variety of ways. Black, on the other hand, has the difficult job of maneuvering pieces in a cramped position to undermine this solid center. It sometimes becomes a nightmare just to equalize.
The Queen's Indian and Kan/Taimanov are much more simple (from my perspective) and the positional play appeals more to my own preferences.
As for the KIA, I dislike finachettoing the king's bishop so early. The Reti is more flexible, with heavier reliance on the queen's bishop fianchetto. Depending on how black chooses to play, the kingside fianchetto can become somewhat of a target.
