If the pieces move exactly the same way, bishops would dominate rooks and knights on a hex board, because there's no longer an option to move directly left or right, and moving diagonally it's possible to touch every square. Allowing rooks to "jump" directly left and right would partially restore the balance.

I played "hexagonal chess" when I was young. The rules are easy. It is hard to play, but not more than normal chess...
