Hello everyone, I created an opening gambit a while back. I think it just borders on respectability, but can be used as a good surprise weapon. My question isn't about the soundness, as many much worse openings have names, but I'm curious how does an opening get officially reconized, added to the ECO, and everything?
paulgottlieb
Almost surely, your gambit already falls under one oth ECO codes, doesn't it. And of course these codes carry no official status: moves are just moves. If your gambit gets played often enough it will eventually be recognized, but you can play whatever moves you like--no matter what ECO thinks!
What is your gambit?
shengyi
Good, logical answer.
This gambit has never been played in the chess.com database.
NOTE TO EVERYONE WHO SEES THIS POST... THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT DEBATING THE OPENING IN QUESTION, IT'S ABOUT OPENING RECONITION
netzach
Regretfully must point out CS007 that you are very unlikely to get anywhere with this campaign unless you learn how to spell recognised correctly ?

lol netzach sorry i was typing fast and it doesnt really matter
could you post it here Adv?
kgwkyle
I'm not sure how it works... do you want it officially recognized? Ask staff how... they may be able to help.
chess.com doesnt officially reconize stuff, FIDE does unless im mistaken
mm ive seen the line without the knight before
and they say the queens gambit is boring
jetfighter13
lol I think I will stick with my favorite opening, the KG
but I tend to play a classical dutch with an early Na6 intending c5 dxc5, Nxc5 gaining a superior position for my kinigit
however I normaly have to place it on c7 to do any dammage
I'm pretty sure this gambit is already under ECO code B20--the Sicilian Wing Gambit. 3.a3 is a more common try for White
In my database this opening variation was played once, on a lower board in a Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) match. It's listed with ECO code B20 in the Fritz database.
Estragon
An opening is sometimes named for the first to play it, but more often for the first prominent master to play it successfully. At least as often, the names are taken from the first master tournament where it is played, like the Cambridge Springs or Leningrad or Archangelsk, or by some other description - King's Indian, Fried Liver, Two Knights, Giuoco Piano (Quiet Game in Italian).
Naming of opening lines is by convention. There is no FIDE or Chessbase or any other body which votes or researches or suggests names. The names just come about. Most often, if a player gets an opening named after him, it is because he brought it to prominence and is identified with it.
For a counter-gambit in a line that is fairly rarely played already, your best bet is correspondence chess (which is mainly by email nowadays) because correspondence players are far more likely to play into such lines, so you will have more chances to win with your idea. Many weird lines get named by the correspondence players who played them regularly first.
Jadeite
My database has 6 games with 3.c3. Interestingly, three of them are played by the same player-Theresa Kalliwoda, a young german player, who was white each time. They're not very high-quality games, but here's one with 3...d5.
Win with the opening a few times at tournaments where your games will get onto peoples' databases, that might help a bit with recognition.
thanks for the game examples! I'm trying right now to find a sutible line against d5
pellik
It's really too bad you can't get an opening named just buy discovering it and submitting a form or something. I'd write a perl script to just submit every possible opening line 24/7 and every new line people play would turn up as something like the pellik 389845 variation.
there is a 5 minute blitz game with the opening, Stockfish defeated the great houdini as white. I cant figure out how to get the PGN from arena in a format where I can put it on chess.com though
