Does anyone know of a good responce to the Dragon Defence?
Just to clarify, do you mean the Sicilian?
Another solid response is to avoid it altogether with any anti-sicilian.
Have you ever heard what Fischer said about the Dragon? He once said he loved to play aginst the Dragon all you had to do was pry open the H file and sac sac mate. Seriously take a look at some of his games against the Dragon
@OP, if you were referencing your last experience against the dragon, you could post it for us to take a look and offer suggestions. The major things that resulted in that loss were developing too slowly, and moving around the same minor several times before you finished with development (i.e. castled your king to safety). The fact that your opponent played a dragon setup was irrelevant.
Kill the dark-squared bishop and you stand a very high chance of winning! ;)
Occasionally one does beat the common "Dragon Defense." That is why We prefer the Hyper Accelerated Double Dragon Venom Defense and its counter part the Hyper Accelerated Double Dragon Venom Attack with AfterBurners!! :) >:[
The Dragon Defence is easily refuted by the King David's Attack:
@ helltank - Obviously that opening is unsound. One should instead play this:
But obviously if you want to go for an anti-sicillian
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6 6. Be3 Bg7 7. f3 0-0 8. Qd2 Nc6 9. Bc4 Bd7 10. 0-0-0 Rc8 (10...Rb8!?; 10...Qa5?!) 11. Bb3 Ne5 12. Kb1 is standard theory these days. White prepares for a storm on the K-side with g2-g4 and h2-h4, Be3-h6 and opens up the h-file.
Needless to say, the Yugoslav Attack has been analysed heavily for decades and there is a lot of theory.
The yugoslav attack, isn't that where white goes Be3 and Qd2?
However, to play the hyper accelerated yugoslav, you must gambit a pawn to yourself when you capture it with your queen.
I like the closed line to sicilian
http://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-openings/an-interesting-opening-repritorie-please-help-my-friends-and-chess-club please answer mine as well
That's how white plays closed, but black usually chooses a different setup.
And new theory on it keeps coming up. I'm currently in an ICCF game where I prepared a direct refutation line against my 2316-rated opponent's pet Dragon variation he plays in the Yugoslav Attack. Once again, it involved sacrificing the h-pawn to pry open his king. Now keep in mind that even with engine use, my opponent is already lost on move 22. I'm going to include the refutation analysis in a chapter of my book I'll be writing next year on the subject of CC.
To give you an idea of how much harder ICCF ratings are to climb compared to chess.com:
'Ouachita' (Bobby Johnson) was the infamous #1 player on the chess.com CC ratings list at over 2800 because he was cheating with engine usage. On ICCF where computer use is allowed and rampant, he reached 2400 and has hit a wall on the climb. I like to laugh at his bio page he made on another CC site, where he proudly lists reaching #1 on chess.com, yet does not mention he got banned for cheating his way there to begin with.
