If ...Be6, then simply Bxe6 fxe6 where black has a weak e pawn and kingside.

As black against the steiner variation I play 2. ... c5
(1. e4 e6 2. c4 c5)

post #84 , after  6...Be6  7 Qb3 and white is better. there are two better moves for black at move 6...  both  Nb6 and Nxc3 are better than 6... Be6

I personally prefer playing a slightly unusual line in the Winawer :

1. e4  e6

2. d4  d5

3. Nc3  Bb4

4. e5  c5

5. a3  Bxc3

6. bxc3 Ne7

7. a4!?

 

The idea is to play positionally, stick the bishop on a3, even sacrificing the a pawn, and advancing f4 and f5.  I have had reasonable results, especially if black plays 6......Qc7 7. a4 Ne7 8. Ba3
