1. D4
Is d4 better than e4
man im telling its pure awesomeness...
the dark tones of real choclate ice cream mixed with the sweet cherry is just really epitome of awesomeness.
What's better? Chocolate cherry milk shakes or Fischer?
The Chocolate cherry milk shake. I would never put Fisher in my mouth, even if he was still alive.
It's possible to play at Carlsen's level with either, that's all you really need to know.
But still, chocolate is better.
Just let the thread die, everyone with half a brain left three or four pages ago. I am starting to wish it was possible to contract a STD from a forum thread.
Let this thread alive. it worths to be to the end of the century!
On a practical basis [ current results] 1. d5 is better.
However since both end in a draw with best play--they are equal.
[as is 1. c3 a draw with best play]

1. d5 is an illegal move? (Or can pawns no advance 3 squares on their first move now?)
I agree with you Ponzi, 1.c3 is probably better than 1.d4 or 1.e4, due to the sneaky nature of it.
ok, here's an argument in favour of d4.
What does d4 do? Prevents ...e5.
e4? they can play ...d5 at move 1. Wrecking white's centre.
So in terms of what squares it securely controls, d4 wins.
D4 is quite tactical but I personaly use e4 but what ever you think fits your style then use it
