Sick to death! Please someone give me a White opening that won't bore me. I'm a beginner and yes, everyone says "play tactical chess." That's fine. But I'm so tired of that same old stuff. Give me something new. And yes, something good for a beginner plz.
PS It has to be a winner!

Er...Ruy Lopez? heh...move the bishop one more square! You could possibly pick up the Scotch, a good opening.
brandonQDSH
Yeah the Ruy Lopez is good at all levels. But if your tactical game lacks explosiveness, then it won't really matter if you play a "tactical" opening or not.
Beginners I run across tend to like the King's Gambit and Bird Opening when they play 1. e4. They're both okay choices. Not very popular at the GM level, but a talented player can easily wreck someone with these openings.
Brandon, how does one get to the Bird opening after 1.e4? I agree the King's Gambit can be good, though.

Play the grob youll never be bored... you might lose alot, but you wont be bored
BlackWaive
Are you talking about playing the Italian as Black? If so, I wholeheartedly agree - it makes me sick, too.
In response to my Two Knights Defense, I get the Modern Bishop's Opening (4. d3), which can lead to a completely symmetrical position after White plays Nc3.
The Giuoco Piano is no different against a completely passive opponent.
Edit: Never mind, I just noticed that you play the Italian as White.
theshrike
Try playing 1. Nf3 instead of 1. e4. It could be the change you're looking for.

The English, c5, can be quite interesting!

e4 is no fun unless your opponent is rated lower than you (personal opinion not substantiated by any evidence other than experience) e4 e5 nf3 nc6 uhhhhg not again! i cant stand it any more...just play d4 and the possibilities are endless...against 1.e4 you mostly get ...e5 in response the other common responses are scillian, french, caro, and pirc (thank god for semi-open games) against 1.d4 you get the QDG (queens gambit declined) QGA (QG accepted) the four main indian defenses (king, grundfeld, queens, nimzo) the "odd" indian defenses (bogo, old, and benoni), tchorgins def, marshall def, and Slav...i think 1.e4 is played out! Ruy sucks, Italian sucks, scotch sucks, philidors sucks, petroff sucks just about all open games suk to me...kings gambit is fun though i agree with that but be ready to calculate some messy positions!
jamesjddong
I'd say play the ruy lopez.
You might think its boring but if hte opponent plays the open berlin, then the tatical possibilities are endless! If a6 then play ba4 and try for f7 sac if appropriate (eg birds defence)

Zzanzibar, I highly suggest the Trompowski attack, in particular the Pseudo-Trompowski when you get the opportunity to do so. 1. d4 d5 2. Bg5!?
Everytime I've used it , I've receieved exceptional results from it. No offline losses to date with it.

Just play gambits...all the time. Make up your own. It's your own fault if you always play the italian game. Get an imagination.

I had the same problem until I realised that it isn't all about the opening it's actually alot more about a plan. If you play any opening the most important part is you can make a plan that suits your style, in your case you like attacking, no boring positions for you. Get an opening (Italian game is still fine and probs better due to your experience with it) find an aggressive line in it (evans gambit is a good suggestion) get to a middle game and create an attacking plan based on your opponents weaknesses in the position. If you feel like variating vienna and kings gambits are good alternatives. I can actually really reccomend the birds with b3 thrown in. OH and remember that in some positions a kingside attack isn't always the right option but there is always the queenside and center to play on aswell! hope this helps!

" 1 e4 .... best by test " Robert James Fischer
Gee...... who to believe ?
Believe ME, that Fischer guy was crazy!
Baseballfan
I'll put my vote in for the Ruy as well.
farbror
Evans gambit is fun
So is the scotch gambit
I think Fischer was many things, but crazy isnt one of them. Spassky knew him very well and said he wasnt crazy, I believe Spassky. I think he was paranoid , and in his last years he was bitter and full of hate, but not crazy.
