What style is 1.b3 suited for? For example, is it mainly for tactical players? Positional players? Dynamic players? Thanx.
Calm your farm mate. Ive only made 2 other threads about this topic. I just want to see what other players thought about the relatively unknown larsens opening thats all. I'm just curious what other people think about the opening and how they play it- aggressively, positionally etc.
Ok, it doesn't matter. Does anyone know any good resources to starting out 1.b3 (larsens opening)? Any e-books? Videos? Books? Websites? etc. Thanx
I occasionally play b3, but not on the first move.
I like to play Bird's opening 1 f4. I usually go into a classical or Leningrad set-up, but sometimes I'll play b3 after a few moves if black gives me a chance to pin his queen's knight, thereby making white's queenside fianchetto development strong. For example:
1 f4 d5 2 Nf3 c5 3 e3 Nc6 (black should normally play 3 ... g6) 4 Bb5 (pinning the knight) Bd7 5 b3 Nf6 6 Bb2 e6 7 0-0 Be7 8 Bxc6
This exchange gives white strong control over the central dark squares.
See chapter 2 of Timothy Taylor, "Bird's opening" (2005).
