What are the most hated chess openings?
Danish Gambit D:
a3,a4,h3 or h4
The correct answer is "The French!"
The other day I played a blitz game vs someone who opened with h4, h5 and h6. (and after I answered Nxh6, Rxh6.)The trick with 'annoying' openings is to treat them with respect. Careless play will get you punished very quickly.
Petroff defense
the petroff for sure
Not sure if I understand the question...but I'm annoyed when anyone opens with 1.d4.
1.c4 is still ok.
My pet peeves are:
1. King's Indian Attack -- Not so much the opening itself, but when people play ONLY the KIA to avoid having to learn anything about the opening phase.
2. Ruy Lopez Exchange Variation -- I typically beat the crap out of it, but I'm a Ruy Lover (from either side), and this is the cheap way out. I always feel robbed.
3. Smith-Morra Gambit -- Highly overrated, IMO. C'mon, folks, the Open Sicilian gives you a nice attack too, and for free!
I don't really like the Sicilian Defense...people will try it against anything these days. I avoid theory...not that I have to, I just like to. I also don't like playing against 1.d4, because people never follow with 2.c4. I just find it somewhat annoying.
I would have to say that the most hated opening is the Wandering King. It's somewhat insulting to the other player although I believe it has nothing to do with the opponent of the player playing it.
The Exchange French.
Petroff.
Colle/London system etc. All those d4 openings that white plays regardless of black's moves.
grob
Exchange ___________.
petroff
Anti-Sicilians and Closed Sicilians - is it too much to ask to play one Open Sicilian every now and then? (not that I think most of my opponents are doing this on purpose)
I use to hate playing against the immediate double-fianchetto. I'm yet to play against it on this site.
