Most people agree 1.Na3 is a terrible opening as it takes a whole other move just to get the knight active and can threaten a double isolated pawn struture by move three. But then again people have been known to win with it as a surprise weapon.

BTW, Tapel-Tomas sounds like a stupid opening, is a stupid opening and Fischers openings have had more impact that all ur crap. Oh, and I hated the alphebetized openings. Just tell me why it is good and how white gets an advantage! You're the one who needs to prove that Na3 is good. If you can't do that, why should anyone believe it is good? The fact that it's possible to win games with it still doesn't make it good because you usually don't get a good middlegame position with it, unless you show me otherwise even with correct play as in opening theory. And I think I'm better than you too but it doesn't matter how good I am; you still have to come up with some analysis because the way I see it a3 is probably not the square it wants to be on. Once in 10 games, maybe. My opinion makes sense because you can't demonstrate how white even equalizes with it. All you do is post games where you won which is not what I want, so why should I think this is good? Why? You avoid the question each time. GIVE ANALYSIS!

Enough of the pissing contest people. ChessTrainors has a few good points but he goes waaaaaaaaay overboard with his zeal. C'mon ChessTrainor, you sound like Billy Mays trying to sell some Oxy clean. No game is lost by the first move, and he was correct; in may openings knights are played to a3 and you can transpose to those openings if black obliges.
However, that doesn't make playing 1. Na3 anything special, it just makes it clever, at best. A few White openings play f3 at some point, but that doesn't make 1. f3 a good move by any means.
And, lastly, out of curiosity, I would like to know if you, ChessTrainor, ever play anything other than 1. Na3 as white, or if you even are able to play anything other than 1. Na3. You sound obsessive in proving this is valid, as if doing so would prove your own validity as a chess player. You focus too much on innovating tradition, but you haven't convinced that you even know what that is in terms of chess.
and ps.: Don't talk about nationalities in chess. For one, it's immature. Secondly, chess should transcend politics. Thirdly, if you know anything about the history of chess, I'm sure you are aware of the corruption of a certain GM by the name of Campomanes who let politics get in the way of chess. Na3 a Natural Deterrent
With the help and suggestion of my a veteran chessplayer for over 40 years.He says that the move Na3 then to Nc4 is a natural deterrent to Black's Qb6 attack.Refer to last posted game CT(1683) vs. fw230(2001) result> draw.If black queen tries b5 or a6. Black Queen will be attack via a discovery Chesk or attack by the same Na3 Knight.Onlythe Na3 move is capable to go to c4 square which is somewhat near the central squares and covering 8 squares a3,b2,d2,e3,e5,d6,b6,a5.So Na3 acts two ways it depends its b2 pawn and attacks blacks Queen on b6.Na3 to Nc4 is the answer to Black's Qb6 move.A full explanation of the role of Na3 in the [A00] Tapel-Tomas Opening.CT.

Well, seeing how ChessTrainor likes to transpose into the London System/ Indian Game, the normal maneuver is N-d2 then Nd2-b3, allowing Nb3-Nd4, which is safer than Na3 to Nb5. However, I used to play the London System/ Indian Game a lot and I found that starting the knight on d2 is very cramping. Also, the London System attacks the king side. Na3 allows a diversification of attack onto the queenside. I am now considering playing the London System again, this time with Na3. However, I doubt I will play Na3 as the first move. Also, I don't want to think of Na3 as the "Tapel-Tomas". ChessTrainor, if you want this opening named after you, play it in a certified FIDE tournament and show it to the officials. Otherwise, you will have to publish an extensive analysis. In any case,a more accurate name for this will be Indian Game: London System, Tapel-Thomas variation. Not simply the "Tapel-Thomas Attack".
