    I need to learn a non-fianchetto opening against d4

i usually play benoni or kings indian, but i decided i dont like fianchettoing anymore.

as white, i like to play e4, fried liver, italian, evans gambit, sicilian yugoslav attack etc.

against e4, i like to play italian, 2 knights, traxler counterattack, the ruy.

i dont mind memorizing million lines of theory.

i absolutly hate closed games. i luv games full of tactics, but i usually dont feel comfortable with gambits as black. (hence the benoni/benko falling out of my favour)

I'm horrible at openings, but I'd do Kf6. And if I was feeling a bit weirder and creative, I'd do d5. If I was feeling idiotic, I'd do h4.

Perhaps a Budapest, or Chigorin?  those can be fairly tactical.

You could try the semi-slav. It can be closed if white chooses so, but it can also be extremely sharp and tactical if white wants a fight. The main problem is that you cannot garuntee a sharp game with black, it takes both sides co-operation to get a razor edged position. Lots of theory too.

i'd suggest the slav as well if you don't want to fianchetto.

or if you want to have some fun, maybe the queen's gambit accepted.

Based on what you play as White, you may prefer either the Queen's Gambit Accepted OR the Dutch Defense.
