Posit. queen sacrifice by engines in the French: Tarrasch open system

I was playing some engines against each other on Arena 1.99 in a 10-round bullet tourney, the match was Amyan (2687) vs. Pharaon (2742) [ratings according to http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/4040/].

The end result was 7 - 3 to Pharaon, but the fifth match produced one of the most fascinating engine games I've ever seen... this was the game:

Amyan sacrifices the queen for bishop and rook in order to get active rooks and minor pieces, I've analysed the initial sacrifice with Houdini and it gives -0.99 for white (so advantage to black), but Amyan goes on to really crush Pharaon in some lovely combinational rook and knight moves.

    Anyway, hope you enjoyed.. :)

    Neat game.

    ( { [Stockfish 2.1.1 64bit] 20:-1.97} 12.Bxe2 Qc7 13.Nxd7 Nbxd7 14.c3 Re8 15.Nd4 Ne5 16.Bf4 Qb6 17.Rae1 Qxb2 18.Bb5 Nc6 19.Rxe8+ Nxe8 20. Bxc6 bxc6 21.Nxc6 Qxa2 )

Stockfish tends to exaggerate advantages is what I've found... it's calculation is brilliant don't get me wrong, but a position Houdini, Rybka or Critter would give +0.40, Stockfish gives +0.90 or so.

Not really a "sacrifice". It traded 9 points of mtaerial for 8 points worth. Great game, but I wouldn't call it a queen sacrifice.

When you're losing material for specific compensation that is called a sacrifice, a pawn sacrifice loses 1 "point" worth of material, but it's still a sac. Exchange sacs most times lose a rook to win a key pawn, which is also just 1 points' worth.

I mean putting that engine analysis in the game window. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Very interesting analysis.

thecheesykid, so I guess we should rename the queen's sacrifice, king's sacrifice, evan's sacrifice, and so on? :P

What are you talking about? Pawn gambits are from openings, I'm talking about pawn sacrifices in the middlegame and even endgame, I never even mentioned openings at all in my post.

thecheesykid said hanging a pawn is a sacrifice, so I guess the king's gambit should be the king's sacrifice, and so on...

Oh lol right, the engine analysis is already posted into the PGN by Arena while the game is going on, I just put it in the comments. 'Bout 10 minutes.

The queen for Rook and peice sac doesn't look sound at all, and it looked really strange how black made no attempt to develop queenside peices. Guess bullet is not letting software get to many ply
