If you can't figure out its pros and cons, you aren't in a good position to say it's not very good... folks rated 2000 points higher than you play it regularly!

White dangles a free c-pawn in front of Black, but to take it Black must move one of his pawns away from the all-important center. And the rub is, if Black takes the pawn immediately, White has the option of recapturing it by force, so it's not really a gambit at all! Black usually declines taking the pawn, or bides his time and then takes it at an opportune moment when he can hold onto it.

The pros and cons of the resulting middlegame depend on future moves--eg, whether Black snatches the pawn, whether White chooses to reclaim it, etc.
