I played a blitz game a while ago, where my opponent tried to keep the pawn. I played incaccurately and didn't get the pawn back, so I am unsure on how to do this correctly.

6. Nc3 and 6. Ne5 both look like good plays for white. For example:

6. Nc3 a6? 7. axb5 cxb5 8. Nxb5 has happened in plenty of my games

6. Nc3 Bd7 7. Ne5 e6 8. Qf3 pins the c-pawn.

i used to play queens gambit before and always like to 3.Pe4.........i dont really ever recall anyone playing this though but dont know why.why move Ne3 on move 2 when you should be applying pressure on the black pawn?also if you really are worried about the pawn down you can reclaim it easily with Qa4 +

"why move Ne3 on move 2 when you should be applying pressure on the black pawn?"

I prefer 3.Nf3 because after 3.e4 Black can battle back with 3...e5!.

Yes Qa4+ is an option, however after this move, the Queen will be forced to c4 where she is often "misplaced"
