Hi all!
I'm currently studying Evan's Gambit opening and came across a problem I couldn't solve. I was told that black shouldn't play dxc3 because of Qd5. I thought of the responce for black with Qe7 and I don't see how bad black can be after this, can anyone help me out?
I am NOT an Evans Gambit expert (calling for Ilovegambits, who loves the Evans), but some interesting stats from my 2008 ChessBase show 8.Qb3 played 123 times and 8.Qd5 played only six times, both scoring 67% for white...
After 8...Qe7, white had tried 9.Ba3, 9.Nd4, 9.Qd1, and 9.Bg5, but the games were generally played by lower rated combatants, which did not inspire confidence when I reviewed the games, so for my money, I'd go with 8.Qb3.
I applaud your study of the Evans!
he can play somthing like ba3 and after qxa3 and qxf7+ white wins material easy
After 8.Qd5, Qe7 9. Ba3, black can play the surprising 9...Bb4 or 9...Nf6.
In this line 7...Nge7 is better. With 7...dxc3, White is superior 8.Qb3 Qe7 9.Nc3 Qb4 Bxf7+ Kd8 11.Bb2.
I spoke with Steinitz, and he thoroughly agrees with GreenLaser.
here is a good example of why not to take on c3
Evans Gambit is an interesting gambit offering many practical chances for white ,but current theory favours black only.
