I have two openings I am unsure how to respond to. Could someone help me out and tell me the best two folling moves or possibilities?

    First, for a scotch exchange:

    And for another typical opening:

In the first diagram, I would recommend that you don't exchange knights in the Scotch, but instead play 5...Bc5. If you wish to play the exchange variation, I think d6 or Qf6 would be the best move.

Way too early to tell. That depends on how both sides choose to play it.

...BB4, ...Nc6, and ...Nf6 often lead to substantially different positions... and those aren't the only good options. The book sitting on the desk in front of me has 200+ pages dedicated to the mainline 1.c4 e5 2.Nc3. As Tony suggests, the Opening Explorer or MCO (an excellent $30 investment) are your friends in this case. Tongue out
