should people even try to create new openings when almost everthing has almost been done already?

yes, if its solid.  the advantage is that it will take an opponent by surprise, meaning that if the player is very skilled in his opening, then he will have a distinct advantage.

The key word was "almost". I'm sure there are other good ones to be created. Even if you can't create one, it gets the juices flowing to the brain.
