Disclaimer: I'm pretty terrible with tactics when it comes to short blitz games, and I know I missed a few obvious ones. Despite my messing around, I think I had an interesting position as white in the opening, but wasn't sure if it was due to errors on my opponent's part, or was a legitamate opening that I never heard of before.
well...your position had potential...that pawn storm coulda been used better....but of course when the queen is hanged all bets are off
your opening was kinda awkward though...2.Nc3 is an innacuracy.better is to just take the d pawn....or advance it to play a type of French defense.6.Bd3 is awkward too as it blocks your d pawn from contesting the center 11.Bxa6 doesn't win though as your knight on e4 is hanging.11.Nxf6 + is winning though.hope that helps.
What would've been a better way to execute the pawn storm?
Edit: Also, what's wrong with 2. Nc3? exd5 is mainline scandinavian, but I think these games show that 2. Nc3 is playable, at worst. If there's a refutation that was recently discovered, I'd like to know about it, too!
I tend to blow it in blitz as well ;)
4. f4 seems dubious to me, since the pawn can no longer spport the knight where it is. black then prepares to attack the long diagonal with b6, and your knight is already becoming a target. So I'm thinking 5.e3 to support the knight may have been better, with Be2 then to hold the queen in case of BxN, dxB, QxQ+.
6. Bd3 really looks ugly to me in front of your center pawn... Still though, If you had played 17. Bxe4 instead of the blunder, it looks like a playable position
hmm...good question.I think I woulda played 12.h3 in such a position,to prepare g4,g5,h4,h5 etc.his pawn storm on the queen side is too slow imo and you gain a tempo by hitting the f6 knight with the pawn.after that maybe position the queen a bit better at maybe h5 (after the knight has left f6 of course).also a piece sac is worth considering here since so many pawns/pieces are gunning at his kingside.he made some blunders and useless moves after that....and with 17.Bxe4 u have an overwhelming advantage....the attack pretty much plays itself after that
Black can answer 2.Nc3 with 2...de4 3.Nxe4 Nd7 (3...Bf5 and 3...Nf6 also make sense) when he is playing a Caro-Kann where Black did not have to play c7-c6 at all, which is of course a good thing for him.
Why not just 2 ...d4 here? Gains a tempo, 3 Nce2 Nc6 Black has more space and has an easier development. 2 Nc3 is just weak.
Like this, black is playing along the lines of a French. (1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe, the Burn/Fort Knox kind of stuff.) Here white did not play d4. If I forget Na6 loses, (should have been Nc6/Nd7 or a5+Na6) then white has to play a3 to defend the bishop. The queenside is now rather weak. Black could bulldozer on with a4 right away and b3 has no answer.
On the other hand, h6 from black is almost forced, after which g5 threatens to make a hole. Just looking at it, the white attack looks a tad more promising. If the black counter attack is not worth it, he should have played Nd7, echange on d4 and play a new defender to f6.
The other obvious plan for black is a6-b5 to harrass the d3 bishop, instead of a5. Without analyzing it well, I can't say what is best though.
