This is a position I ran into OTB as part of an attempted Ruy Lopez Exchange Variation.  What is White's Best Move?

Objectively? Tough call.

Bxf7+ is a speculative sacrifice, since the Bishop's dead in the water anyway, as an in-between move before the Queen has to get out of there. I'm not sure it's 'best'.

It might be more productive to post the whole game since it seems that White has played some strange moves to end up in this position.

It is called the Noah's Ark Trap, and results from the classic Ruy Lopez Exchange Variation.  Black just counter-attacked with c5.

I apoligize dalmatinac, but I do not understand the meaning of your post.  Do you mean white should resign at this point?  Please clarify.

White is in a bad way... when he moves his queen   ....c4 wins a piece.

I disagree.....White wins two pawns for the bishop and has great chances to create a passer (or more)and  black also has an isolani.  While black may have an advantage the game is far from over

This is not a puzzle dalmatinac, this is a situation I came across on the board while playing black.  White resigned as a result of the pressure on his pieces, and I wanted to know what people who are rated higher than me think about white's chances.

How can this be an exchange variation with the white king's bishop still on the board?  The exchange variation goes :  3 Bb5 a6  4 Bxc6

It was nice of white to resign.  Personally, with a ratings disparity that big white could have taken the loss of piece for a pawn and loss of initiative in exchange for black's ability to castle and played on in hopes that he would be paid back with interest in blunders, possibly allowing a win or a draw.  For that matter, if I would be playing someone that much higher and he would offer a draw, I'd take it without thinking unless I saw a clear mate.  Wink

Dd3, and now ...c4 2.Bc4 and two panws for the bishop. Bf7+ not like because ...Kf7 2.Qd3,Rf8! and Kg8 and the black has a solid position
