For those of you who like to play the Sicilian, what lines do you typically play?  I normally play the Accelerated Dragon with an occasional Najdorf or Sveshnikov if I am in a violent mood.  What type of opening do you hate to see against the Sicilian?  Or do you have a preference?

As white I play against the sicilian, either the closed sicilian or the Alapin variation. As black I usually go for the Najdorf or Sveshnikov. But If I'm playing against a stronger oponent then i go for either the dragon or the Counter Attack Variation

I'm finding that all the Sicilian lines have their own little quirks and that it is awesome if I can have many at my disposal.

I used to play the French, but I am ditching it for the Sicilian. I have much theory to learn...

I LOVE Sicilian games, particularly open sicilians. I usually play accelerated dragon as black, but sometimes i like to play the najdorf, particularly the old 6.Bg5 Nbd7 line. I am just after playing for the first time the gaw paw variation too in some blitz games. Its pretty good weapon!

I like to cripple people who play the morra gambit and i guess those who play the closed just ruin the fun for all of us!

The Closed Sicilian is simply wussy chess.  Some people don't have the mind to handle the Open, so they take an easy way out and play a stupid closed.  That ought to be outlawed!

lol I used to share the same view but after playing the closed as both sides i beg to differ. It is a good option against the right opponent but one of my fav grandmasters GM Mark Hebden seems to have played it pretty extensivley in his career. Im not too sure if he still plays it nowadays however. Oh, needless to mention, GM Boris Spassky showed how useful the closed sicilian is!

I play morra - gets ok results in correspondence and good results in blitz.

trouble is if your opponent knows the traps and plays the right moves you have to work very hard to get back to parity...

BUT it saves learning theory about sicilian (as someone said, it is quite an unforgiving opening), and that suits me fine. Players who would kill me with the morra would probably do so in other sicilian openings as well Smile

I am not too good with or against the sicilian, at least not yet. I am practicing the Kan sicilian with varied success (which is good considering I do not have a book on it). I play a form of the King's Indian attack against it and it usually goes into closed sicilian lines, and I am not too good with it either.

I simply hate the sicilian at this time. Don't know any lines and I am not to sure where to start. When my oponent tries to play the sicilian I block myself in with a KIA.

personally, I hate people who play Sicilian because it's good line of play so after 1.e4 c5 then i like playing the easy 2. c3... I like to get that c pawn gone by eventually d4 and then my queenside knight can come out later
