Nice opening, I play the dragon myself but just a note

7. Bc4?! Ng4 [harrasingthe bishop

7. f3 before 8. Bc4 would be better

7. ...Ng4 8. Bb5+!

7.Bc4 Ng4 8.Bb5 Kf8!  where most books give blacks position as equal.

sry - i dnt get ur line -

after 10.Nd5, cant black just go Bxh2+?

11. Kh1 Nxe3 12.fxe3 Be5 13.Qf3 f6 and I cant c a way for white to continue his/her attack Embarassed

Sure, white has some compensation for the pawn (lead in development, more active pieces)

14.Nf4 Bxf4 15.exf4 Kg7

Yeah, it´s the Yugoslav attack. But it would be wiser to play Bc4 later, but this time black didn´t take advantage of the error.

even more aggressive would be to push the h-pawn h-2->4->5 and then if Nh5 play g4, faster.

Didn´t Bobby Fischer like this a lot? He said that his strategy was: "sac, sac, mate!"

Well, I wasn't using an engine and that is not any book that I have, so which one is it you are using?  For that certainly looks to refute my idea.  Smile

Earlier, you said "most books."    Which one is good that has this off-beat line with Kf8, which seems strong move I clearly had not fully considered?

ok i would like to change my wording to 'a' book : )

and i would also like to add 'some book published in 1980s'.Laughing

Batsford Chess Openings - on a sidenote i think i ve read about some million of years ago that Kf8 is =.

I would like to think that all of the above is thought up by my own brain Tongue out, but that seems to be not the case...

ogerboy: no worries.  I appreciate you busting my analsyis is that line!  Smile

I'd rather get the nasty surprise that I wam mistaken here online than otb in a tournament!

I know it is a sort-of side line in the Yugoslav, but I did not find it (The move Kf8!) in the books I have.

I think you are indeed correct that it does lead to equal position for Black and that the Bb5 trick does not work because the B is on g7 and allows the King to walk.

I agree that move 7 Bc4 is dubious. It provides extra tempos for black's pawn storm and the bishop is not doing anything there. Overall it's not doing anything anywhere, so I would be happy to exchange it early.

If you're going to play the dragon, it should be the accelerated dragon, as it will defeat the Yugoslav kingside pawn attack.  That's according to a video I saw recently.

Yes, that is its principled raison d'etre.

However, the Maroczy can be a sticky wicket on the path towards successful completion of that strategy.

Yes, C4 from white keeps black queen's pawn from going to d5 - that same video discussed that.
